Concern #1: When Water is Cloudy

So you’re pouring a glass of water, and instead of clarity, you’re met cloudy off-putting liquid. Hmmm.. cloudy water is not what you expect when moving into any new home. Well, really ever! So what do you do?

First, you will want to test your water’s pH and quality levels. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) it is estimated that drinking water is considered safe to consume within the range of a 6.5 to 8.5 PH level. If below 7, it is considered more acidic and likely contaminated with a corrosive substance. At exactly 7 is considered neutral however is not necessarily safe to drink, other tests have to be made to know how safe the water is. Finally below 7 is alkaline but all because it is not acidic does not make it safe. These tests can be found at your local Home Depot or Lowes stores. Or you can get a water quality check by calling your local Long Island plumber – we do this at every home! Depending on these results, will indicate if a filter is needed or if there is a more serious problem with your water. If you suspect pipe corrosion or water quality issues, call a Master Plumber immediately.

Next, assuming there is no major pipe damage to take care of first, you will want to see what you can and cannot filter out. Filters are not all created equally; some will lean on the heavy filtering side while others may only remove minor impurities. Investing in a water filter is a personal choice and can fit any lifestyle or budget. If you can see any substances or particles floating around then please don’t drink the water.

Concern #2: Does your water smell like sulfur?

If something is off, don’t drink the water: it’s essential to identify the specific contaminants in your water. Conduct a thorough water test to determine the concentration of hydrogen sulfide and any other impurities that may be present. This information will guide you in selecting an appropriate water filter.

If you’re unsure about the best filtration solution for your specific water issues, consider consulting water treatment professionals. There is nothing wrong with asking a professional for help in this case. For the safety of those drinking water, it is important to make the safest move. Plumbers can analyze and test your water with accurate results. They’ll recommend a tailored filtration system based on your needs and the characteristics of receiving your water.

Choosing the Right Filter

Choosing the ideal water filter is like assembling the perfect team – it should align with your lifestyle, goals and check off all the requirements. Just as each player becomes an important part of the team, a water filter becomes a crucial component of your home dynamic.

Items to consider are aesthetics, ease of installation, filtration levels, taste preference, water pressure, and functionality. Something else to consider is costs and ease of use when it comes to changing the filter. Does your filter need additives or regular maintenance? All questions to ask before choosing the water filter right for you. You want your water filter to be ready to perform at its best.

Water Filter Installation

Why is it a good idea to change out a water filter in other areas of your home? We’ll let you in on “the drip”, a water filter extends beyond providing clean drinking water; it positively impacts the performance, longevity, and maintenance of many other household appliances.

Hard water, which is water high in mineral content, can lead to scale buildup in appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, and water heaters. The minerals in hard water can accumulate over time. Many of our customers swear by shower head filters. Not only do they prevent hard mineral build-up in your systems, but they provide a noticeable difference to your skin and hair (so the ladies say!).

Washing machines are susceptible to the effects of hard water as well. Filtering water before it reaches your washing machine can improve the effectiveness of laundry detergents and avoid the embarrassment of wondering why your clothes smell.

Water heaters, especially tankless ones, are prone to scale formation due to hard water. The presence of minerals can reduce the heating efficiency and, over time. Another great way to filter out the mess is by contacting your local plumbing company for a quick and inexpensive inspection.

Water Filters that Savor the Clarity

Living on Long Island is a treasure, and having access to crystal-clear is a huge part of that treasure. So to keep it clear, we recommend having the right water filter for your home and lifestyle preferences.  If you are not sure if your home needs a filtration system, the first step to take is to test your water quality. The second step is to call a local plumbing company or water inspection specialist.
